any advice?

calling all mamas out there:

atticus has been teething the last week or so, and now has one molar partially through and one on its way. he really has been an awesome trooper, and other than the snot and drool all over his face, most of the time you can't even tell.

he also has been having some weird sleeping patterns. for the last few days, he won't sleep at all during one of his naps (it's not consistently one or the other, but he consistently doesn't sleep during one of them). he also wakes up at like 6:15 and messes around in his bed for like a half an hour. (when he's awake in his bed, he's not crying or in pain or anything, he's just awake and messing around.)

so my question is, would you treat this as just a side effect of teething or would you think that he's getting ready to drop down to one nap a day? should i try messing with his schedule or wait it out until he's done teething (which i've heard can take a looong time with molars)?

not sure about the teething...however Strummer went down to one nap about a month that could be it. :D

Kids sleeping habits can be a mystery! I'd say teething, nap schedules, even growing could be good reasons. Lately our kids have been off in sleeping well. I chalked some of it up to their lack of physical activity from being stuck in the house all day... every day...

We've tried to really wear them out during the day. Bryan really gets them moving at night playing on the floor with them and having them pretend to be different animals and running around.

I know you're limited on space... and energy yourself! Maybe have Todd come up with some rowdy boy activities to get his blood pumping and tire him out.

Then you can pull out the old school line our parents always used when we'd been playing hard... "they'll sleep good tonight!"

Seth got like that at about 13 months and would have 2 naps some days and only 1 on other days and it was kind of like that for a while until he just went down to one. I would say it may be more that then teething. said...

I'm trying desperately to remember when my kids went to 1 nap a day, but for the life of me I cannot. Regardless, from what you've described it sounds like he might be ready to drop to one nap a day. If you switch to just one afternoon nap (I always do early afternoon - like 12:30 to 1:00 start time) then it's likely he will sleep longer at that nap. Just my 2 cents! Good luck!
