'what's up' weekly.

So, it's been a while since I've done a weekly run-down.  With Rocco around, there is simultaneously tons going on, and also nothing to write about.

In Rocco news, he turned eight whole weeks on Wednesday.  I've been spending the last two weeks working on teaching him to fall asleep on his own by laying him down drowsy, but awake.  It's a slow process, but he's catching on, and once he falls asleep, he's a great napper.  He's still going to bed around midnight or so, and I'm getting really tired.  Plus, it has snowed a bunch here and the temperature has dropped, so I'm starting to get really cranky.

In Laurelai news, we're having to launch an anti-bullying campaign in our house.  Not to protect her, as you might think, but to protect her victims.  Though she is still as helpful as ever with All Things Rocco.

In Finneas news, he's starting to nap without a diaper on... it has been successful most days, though if you're looking for a fail-proof recipe for getting urine out of a pack and play mattress, let it soak in a tub full of hot water, dawn dish soap, and lemon and tea tree EO's.  Then scrub with a carpet brush and air dry.  For your health.

In Penelope news, she has a weird rash, but she also has a new set of colorful pens, so it all balances out in the end.  She has gotten super encouraging with her words over the last couple of weeks, and I can't even count how many times this week she turned to me and said, 'Do you even know how awesome you are?'

In Atticus news, he stayed home from church on Sunday because he wasn't feeling well, and we had a really fun time together, just me and him and Rocco.  He is really starting to develop a heart for the Bible, and has frequently asked to have it read out loud, or to stay up late in his bed reading a storybook Bible.  Well, sure, son.

In Todd news, he spent three hours shoveling out our driveway this week because he likes to party.  He's still growing out his beard from No-Shave November, although he's shaving the neckbeard, so I don't hate it.

In my own personal news, I went grocery shopping on Saturday and took Penelope with me, and had a ball.  We're coming to realize that anything we do that could be done with a kid in tow, should be done with a kid in tow.  It's hard sometimes, because it cuts into some necessary alone time for this strong introvert.  But there isn't a ton of time to get adequate one-on-one time with them if we don't, and they're really such different people when they're not just part of the pack.  It's totally worth it.  I think she's going to become a regular shopping pal.

I also found a new rug for our bedroom.  I'd been on the hunt for a long time, and finally found one - at west elm, on clearance, plus fifteen percent off.  Oh man.  I'm so excited to get it in there.

We all got a chance to see lots of friends this week, too.  My friend Michelle came over yesterday morning, which was great since I haven't seen her since she moved to Minnesota over the summer, and we got to eat dinner at our friends Stan and Sarah's house last night.  Today Todd will take the big two to his friend Jordan's wedding, and tomorrow we'll hopefully be heading out on a double date with Paul and Jenni.  We are almost never this social - it's exhilarating and exhausting all at once.

And that was how we ended 2015.  Not too shabby.
